Ms. Jane Rathbone
Ms. Rathbone is an architect, former President/CEO, and Chair of the Board of Hanbury Architects, a firm founded in Virginia that currently serves clients across the United States through nine locations. For over 30 years, her passion has been exploring opportunities to enhance student engagement, wellness, and success through design. Her award-winning work is represented on more than 100 campuses, establishing the firm as a national leader in campus planning and design.
Jane holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech and, in 2018, received an honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Rhodes College for her leadership in transforming their campus. She frequently teaches and lectures on campus architecture and student life, including nine years as co-leader of Harvard’s GSD Executive Education course on campus planning and design.
She is a member of the university's Ut Prosim Society of donors and has served on the advisory board and accreditation team for the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design, as well as on numerous arts, architecture, and civic boards in Virginia.
Jane Cady Rathbone was appointed on July 1, 2026 by Governor Spanberger.
