2025-2026 Student Representatives
Applications due February 16, 2025 at 11:59PMEach year the Board of Visitors selects one undergraduate student representative and one graduate/professional student representative. Student representatives serve a one-year term from July 1 through June 30.
Evaluation Criteria
The candidates must be in good standing with the university and will be evaluated on leadership involvement, ability to work with administrators and faculty, and ability to represent a broad range of student interests. The selection of student representatives is based on merit, without regard to age, color, disability, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, ethnic or national origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, or military status.
Responsibilities
The Board of Visitors is mandated by law to meet at least once a year, but usually meets four times, in August, November, March/April, and June, and holds an annual retreat. Refer to the BOV Student Representative Handbook for a comprehensive description of the role and responsibilities of the student representatives.
Both BOV student representatives also serve as members of University Council and Order of the Gavel. The undergraduate student representative also serves as a Vice President of the Undergraduate Student Senate and on the Undergraduate Student Senate Cabinet. The graduate/professional student representative also serves in the Graduate and Professional Student Senate and on the Graduate and Professional Student Senate President’s Cabinet. In addition, the student representatives may be asked by the president, provost, or other university leaders to serve on special task forces or committees. It is vitally important for the student representatives to maintain constant contact with administration, including the president and provost and other university leaders, as well as with the students on all campuses of the university.
