Board of Visitors
What We Do
The Board of Visitors is the governing authority for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The Board is composed of 14 members, 13 of whom are appointed by the Governor. The 14th member is the President of the Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services, who serves ex officio. In addition, there are four non-voting representatives to the board, representing faculty, staff, graduate students and undergraduate students.
Public Comment on Tuition and FeesVirginia Tech will hold a workshop with public comment period when any type of tuition increase is proposed. The Board of Visitors is now receiving comments. Prior to the workshop, review the Proposed Tuition and Fee Changes and Public Comment Guidelines.

Virginia Tech Board of Visitors to consider 2021-22 tuition and fees at March 22 meeting; public comment opportunity available March 8
Virginia Tech’s tuition and fees strategy is intended to support the university’s strategic plan within the context of the various budget implications of the state’s General Assembly actions and other major initiatives that impact university costs in the upcoming year.
After graduating from Virginia Tech in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Edward H. “Ed” Baine joined Dominion Energy as an associate engineer. During his tenure at the energy company, he has held numerous engineering, operational, and management positions.
